Research activities at this department are interdisciplinary by nature, necessitating collaborations between different engineering professionals and also between professionals in engineering, medicine, and biology.
International scientific and research collaborations are among the notable features of this department, an example of which is the joint M.Sc. dual degree program with the Medical School of the University of Picardie Jules Verne, France.
